Testo Ivory

Blankets drying over his old bed
Drop the casket in the ground
Ivory like the second time you married
Pure no more
And secrets found out

Sleep on the floor of a stranger's house
Tell myself I could be someone else
Once familiar things can lose their shape
You won't even recognize my face
In the empty frame that's taken its place

The phone rings
Early morning
Brought the bad news
There's no good way to tell you
Sort through memories in my head
Look for meaning in things you've said
Long enough ago to forget
So I think of it every day to keep the wound fresh
