Testo Strange Benedictions

Speak up if you're so persuaded
This is the path i'm supposed to take.
There's a strange sort of logic
To the way we live.
Unaware and afraid,
Will I see it tonight?
I will burn in neon light,
And in a moment I'll realize
That I can never go back.
A strange blessing indeed
When what I hate is what I need,
And all desire is twisted
Into something unknown,
So I cauterize the wound
Again and withdraw into complacence,
I work hard to set the stage
Again for things to just get worse,
So I wash away the residue
of another day's self-abuse,
I work hard to further numb
The sense of accomplishment,
Somewhere down the road.
Speak up if you're so committed
To a cause you believe is true.
There's a strange sort of logic
To the faith you have.
It's a common excuse,
Will you be there tonight
When I burn in neon light?
Will you remember my name
When people no longer care?
A strange blessing indeed,
We pick the wound and let it bleed,
And when the blood is all drained
We'll do it over again,
I work hard to cover up the pain
But it stays there anyway,
And it forces me to face the truth,
I've been asleep so long.
So I wash away the residue
Of another day's self-abuse,
Will this strange benediction
Bring me what I deserve?
Somewhere down the road.
